The athletics calendar holds thirteen international events in 2023

2023 will bring appointments, challenges and many kilometers. World Athletics has prepared an appointment calendar that will be its main attraction budapest world cup next summer.

It’s a pre-Olympic year for sport and athletics, a year where normality is taking shape and where championships are back full of illusion. European team cross

Oropesa: February 8

Spain will host the European Team Cross Country on February 8 and will be held in Oropesa, Castellón. Eight years later, the town will host 100 teams from 25 countries in a beautiful setting: the green beaches of Marina d’Or. One of the most interesting points of this route is that the athletes have to go through more than 260 meters of sand in each lap and they will experience a 180 degree turn in that sand.

Cross World Championship

Bathurst: starts February 18

The Cross Country World Championship will be the earliest World Championship in history. It will be held on February 18 after two years of waiting and will be in the city of Bathurst, 200 km from Sydney. On the circuit, mostly car and motorcycle racing, a 2km route is drawn. The athletes will visit some vineyards in the middle of summer, where in Australia they experienced a maximum temperature of 27 degrees.

European Indoor Championships

Istanbul: from March 2 to 5.

The city of Istanbul will host the European Indoor Championships, celebrating its 37th edition. This is the first time Turkey will host a championship and it will be held at the Ataköy Athletics Arena. It will host events such as 60, 400, 800, 1,500 or 3,000 meters, the 60-meter run or the pentathlon.

Throwing the European Cup

Leiria: March 11 and 12

Leira will repeat this year as the venue for the European Throwing Cup. After Split 2021, the headquarters, in the heart of Portugal, will host the competition on March 11 and 12.

European Team Walking Championships

Podebrady: May 21

The Czech city of Podebrady will host the 15th edition of the European Team Walking Championships. It was the headquarters of the championship in 2021 and again in 2025.

European Cup 10,000 meters

Paced: June 3

The 26th edition of the 10,000 meters European Cup will be held again this year in Pacé, a small town in France. The date is June 3 and last year the Spanish men’s team did not miss their podium appointment and won the silver medal.

Trail and Mountain Running World Championship

Stubai: from June 6 to 10

Stubai will host the second edition of the Trail and Mountain Running World Championships which will be held between June 6 and 10. The Austrian Tyrolean Alps will host two trail running events, short and long, of 44.6 and 85.6 kilometers, two mountain race, a vertical climb and a classic, and race for U20 athletes.

European Team Championship

Chorzów: June 23, 24 and 25.

The former European Cup is held at the Slaski Stadium in the Polish city of Chorzów. This year, the European teams are divided into three divisions, the First Division, where Spain is present, will consist of 16 teams and will compete on June 23, 24 and 25 in the afternoon, the Second Division, with 16 other teams, will do it from 20 to 22 in the afternoon, and in the morning of those days the countries of the Third Division will do it.

U23 European Championship

Espoo: from July 13 to 16

The U23 European Championship will celebrate its 14th edition in the Finnish city of Espoo, from July 13 to 16. Espoo has never hosted a competition and opens for its 270,000 inhabitants.

U20 European Championship

Jerusalem: August 7-10

The U20 European Championship has been postponed and will be held between August 7 and 10 in Jerusalem, where the U18 European Championship was already held.

Outdoor World Championship

Budapest: from August 19 to 27

The World Outdoor Championships will celebrate its 19th edition in Budapest. Hungary has hosted four World Athletics events and this year will host the World Championships at the National Athletics Center, which has a capacity for 35,000 spectators. The championship dates are August 19-27, one month later than last year’s event in Eugene.

Road World Championship

Riga: starts on September 30

The Road World Championships will begin on September 30 in the Latvian capital, Riga, and will include three trials: half marathon, 5km and 1 mile. The athletes will tour, for the first time in a World Athletics event, the historic center of the city, a UNESCO heritage site.

European Cross Country Championship

Brussels: December 10

The World Athletics calendar will close with the European Cross Country Championships to be held on December 10 in the Belgian capital, Brussels.
