The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya has already identified all the participating teams in its 102nd editionwhich will take place between next March 20 and 26 and will once again bring to the show the best cycling in the world on Catalan roads.
As always, the Catalan UCI World Tour test Enjoy the presence of 18 of the world’s best cycling teamsthe UCI WordTeam, with mandatory participation in all events of the highest category in the world.
A participation that adds to the seven UCI ProTeam teams invited by the race organization and that they will take part in the 2023 edition, which will start in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and finish in Barcelona after seven exciting stages full of attractions.
As a team that is sure of its presence as one of the two best UCI ProTeams in the world ranking is Lotto Dstny, the team of one of the great symbols of world cycling and of the Volta in particular of the last decade, Thomas De Gendt, stage winner in five different editions of the Catalan race (2013, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2021). The Belgian team also has the Danish Andreas Kron, the first leader of the Volta 2021.
For his part, a man known for his career as UCI WorldTeam, Israel-Premier Tech will also participate in the Voltaa group of old acquaintances from the Catalan race such as Chris Froome, a four-time winner of the Tour de France who has accumulated eight participations in the Volta, the Canadian Michael Woods, 6th in the 2019 edition, or the South African Daryl Impey, stage winner of the 2017 edition.
With his invitation, the Burgos-BH team will experience its fourth participation in the Volta after the 2018, 2019 and 2022 editions. The Navarrese Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, the Spanish team with the longest track record as a UCI ProTeam, with more than a consecutive decade in the elite, will also repeat their presence in the race, which in their team 2023 are the Catalans Abel Balderstone, Joel Nicolau and Eduard Prades.
The Kern Pharma Team will enjoy its third presence in a race in which it has already participated in its last two editions. Navarra’s young structure continues to be the professional team with the most Catalan cyclists in its squad, with Roger Adrià, Kiko Galván, Álex Jaime, Jordi López, Martí Márquez and Pau Miquel. It will also be the third consecutive year in the Volta for the Euskaltel-Euskadi team, which has not failed in the event since the historic structure of the Euskadi Foundation regained its international status.
Finally, the Uno-X Pro Cycling Team will repeat its presence after its participation in the last edition. The Norwegian team, which made its debut in UCI World Tour stage races at the last Volta a Catalunya, established itself as one of the great elite teams in the world, as it showed at the last Volta with the two cyclists (Tobias Johannessen and Torstein Træen) finishing in the top ten of the general classification.
So, between next March 20 and 26, the best cyclists in the world will once again compete on Catalan roads in the 102nd edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which remains consolidated as an unmissable event on the international cycling calendar. The 25 participating teams will seek to take over from Colombian Sergio Higuita (Bora-Hansgrohe), the last winner in the centenary history of the third oldest stage race in the world after the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia.
