Three men were arrested for homophobic chants in Saturday’s game against Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield (a match that ended 0-0). Merseyside police reported this on Tuesday.
The men arrested are 23, 37 and 49 years old. They were arrested on suspicion of homophobic harassment and is set to create heartbreak during Saturday’s meeting. This was explained by the police in a statement. They were three separate incidents. Two of the arrests took place outside the Anfield stadium and another inside.
“Merseyside Police will not tolerate any hate crime of any kind and we will bring to Justice whoever was responsible for the offensive songs,” said Superintendent Paul Sutcliffe, who is responsible at police level for the meeting.
“This time, if the three suspects are charged and found guilty, they will be banned from football stadiums,” Surcliffe concluded.
