Sporting Club de Portugal, the defending champions, became the first finalists of the 2022/2023 Portuguese League Cup on Tuesday, defeating Arouca 1-2 at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiría with a goal, the second on his account, by Paulinho , in minute 82. The goal has to be reviewed by VAR.
Paulinho himself put Sporting in extra time in the first half (m.47+) after a strategic play by the team led by Rúben Amorim and four minutes after VAR canceled a goal for Brazil’s Arouca in by the hand of Antony Alves Santos.
In the second half, VAR disallowed another goal against Sporting due to offside by Matheus Reis. And immediately after (m.58) Arouca equalized thanks to a target from the Palestinian Oday Dabbagh, who beat the Spanish goalkeeper Adán by finishing a service outside the left foot of Argentine Alan Ruiz.
The game was solved by Paulinho in the 82nd minute and there was suspense, which VAR took to give it a good one, after analyzing a possible offside, the goal of the double and the success of Paulinho.
