the Irish Sam Bennett (Bora-hansgrohe) was surprised at the end of the stage this Tuesday at Return to San Juanbecause he did not expect the attack from the winner, the American Quinn Simmons, but from the Belgian Remco Evenepoel.
“We knew there would be an attack at the end, but we expected it to be from Remco Evenepoel.. I did this in 2019, when Stybar attacked near the finish line. It’s a day for stage hunters,” said the leader at the finish line.
Bennett lamented the fact that he could not win, but announced that he would try again on other occasions, hoping “that there would be no last-minute attacks like today.”
Ahead of Friday’s mountain stage at El Colorado, Bennett believes it will be a tough day. “I did the climb in 2019 and it will be a very difficult stage because we will be going all day at the top.. This is not a climb for a pure climber, and the wind will also play an important role”, he concluded.
