Granollers and Zeballos, one step away from the Australian Open final in the doubles box

Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos (8) qualified for the second year in a row for the semifinals of the Australian Open after defeating German Andreas Pies and local John Peers (14) by a tight 6-4, 6-7(2) and 6-2.

The Catalan closed out match point with an intern forehand from the other that unleashed a roar from the crowd. from the Kia Arena enjoyed a fierce doubles match on a warm and sunny morning at Melbourne Park.

We knew before the game that they were a good couple, we played very solid. especially from others”, commented a Granollers who will have a chance to avoid the semifinal round after he fell last year with his Argentine teammate against Australians and champions Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis.

Of course we wanted to win that match but the atmosphere was amazing and I have good memories despite the loss.Zeballos explained.

The Spanish-speaking pair put together a superb performance after being close to 80% first in play and finishing the match with a creditable three out of five on breaking balls.

His next opponent will be locals Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kublersewho soundly beat British Neal Skupski and Dutchman Wesley Koolhof 6-3, 6-1.
