Football is in mourning. The CE Sabadell announced this Friday the death of Gerard Escoda, sports director of the harlequin club, at 50 years old. The former soccer player was diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago. Many personalities, clubs and fans have extended their condolences to the Catalan entity on the death of its sports director. The CE Sabadell reported in an official statement that “we deeply regret to announce the death of Gerard Escoda, the club’s sports director. Our condolences and all the warmth to his family and friends. A great man has left us. We will miss you so much, Gerard. Rest in peace”.
Escoda, a native of Reusstarted his sports career in the subsidiary of Real Zaragoza before passing by Reus Sports, Nastic of Tarragona, EU Lleida in two stages, Villarreal CF Y UD Salamanca. A long career as a footballer (he hung up his boots in 2006) which continued in the offices after his retirement.
It was with the ‘groguets’ that he ended his two campaigns First, even scoring the 100th goal for the Castellón team in the highest category of Spanish football. He is also one of the members of EU Lleida who competed in the elite in the 1993-94 season and achieved a historic victory in Camp Nou.
