“I’ve known Lance for 11 years. We met in 2012 when I was at Ferrari, he was at the Ferrari Academy. And I’ve known his father, Lawrence, for many years. He’s a great friend of mine. I’ ve been to his house. in Canada several times, playing different sports and enjoying time together. He has the speed and he has the talent. He has shown it many times, especially in wet condition. I remember Lance’s pole position in Turkey and some of his other great wet performances; to perform at that level in difficult conditions you have to have a special feeling in the car.”

HOW IT’S PREPARING FOR 2023

“I’ve been training since December. This preseason has been calmer than in previous years. I had a bike accident in 2021 and the following winter they had to remove some of the plates used to rebuild my jaw. This winter, I was able to concentrate all the time I wanted to train. I’m in better shape than in previous seasons”.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING

“It’s very important, especially in a new team. Everything changes when you join a new team: the seat adjustment; the different steering wheel methods, the different buttons and lights; the procedure for pit stops. There are some things that are unique to each team. Learning these things takes time, so you want everything to be as smooth as possible. These changes are very simple, but these new methods must be automatic. You can’t think about these details when you run, you have to be 100% focused on driving.”

THE DESIRE TO GET BACK BEHIND THE WHEEL OF AN F1

“When you get to the end of the season, you need some time to disconnect from motorsport. It’s nice to spend time with family and friends and not think too much about racing.
