Lorea Ibarzabal, second best Spanish brand of 800 meters


The Spanish athlete Lorea Ibarzabal meet the minimum to participate in Europeans in an indoor track to be held next March at Istanbulafter finishing second this Saturday in the final of the 800 meters of the meeting of Metz (France) with a time of 2:01.00 minutes.

A record that puts the 28-year-old from Madrid in second position in the all-time Spanish ranking, just behind mayte martinezwho set the Spanish record in 2004 with a time of 1:59.52.

Ibarzabal, who lowered his personal best so far by 1.63 seconds, the 2:02.63 he clocked last week in the French town of Val-de-Reuil, was only surpassed by Ugandan Halimah Nakaayi, world champion in the air free in the year 2019, winning the victory with a time of 1:59.18 minutes.

A sensational performance that allowed the Spaniard to improve by 1.20 seconds the minimum -2:02.20- required by the European Association and by 2 seconds the mark -2:03.00- required by the Spanish Federation to participate in the continental event.

European Championships also approached by Ignacio Fontes from Granada, after finishing fifth in the 1,500m final with a record 3:38.22 minutes, more than a second less -1.28- than the time -3:39.50- required by Spanish Federation to be able to go to Istanbul.
