It is no secret that Chelsea is experiencing a very difficult season in the Premier (in which the table is 9th, 10 points from the Champions League zone) and The ‘blue’ club hired Gilbert Enoka, famous mental abilities coach, to try to instill a winning culture in the Stamford Bridge team. Enoka is the ‘brains’, in his field, of the All Blacks, New Zealand’s soccer team.
Enoka has worked with the All Blacks since 2000 in various roles, in recent years also as a manager. The All Blacks themselves went public Enoka’s marriage to Chelsea.
Enoka, who will join Chelsea in a short-term advisory role, has been appointed by Todd Boehly, the new owner of the Stamford Bridge entity, with the task of building a world-class winning culture at the ‘blue’ club. Chelsea invested 329.5 million euros in transfers in the winter market but it hasn’t even started yet (1-1 on Saturday on the 23rd day of the Premier).
This is the first time Gilbert Enoka has worked in the world of football. At the All Blacks, a maxim introduced by this ‘coach’ of mental abilities was “no idiots”. Developing respect skills and strengthening group identity is another of its goals. “You can have all the techniques in the world, but what will allow success is the culture of the team”, said Chelsea’s new mental skills developer coach.
Enoka, of Maori origin, is key to the All Blacks winning the 2011 and 2015 World Cups. Enoka also worked with the New Zealand cricket team between 1998 and 2004. Another of his mottos: “If you can’t change people, change people.”
