After completing more than 28 marathons on four of the five continents, Carles Farré (1958), ‘Butxi’, Number 100 wants to be the Barcelona MarathonMarch 19, and he wants to complete it with his firstborn, Pol (1990). After participating in 34 of the 44 editions that this marathon celebrates this year, Farré recounts the reason for his decision. “It was clear to me that the 100th marathon should be Barcelona, at home. In 2002, for my 50th marathon, I did the Athens, Greece) as a tribute to the history of this distance. And, for one hundred, I want to pay tribute to the city where I was born and where my marathon career began”, argues ‘Butxi’.
“The evolution of these 40 years of Marathon Barcelona. A home run is motivation. I meet people I know and I know the circuit. I want my 100 marathons in my city to inspire those who want to run this race. This year I will enjoy without looking at the timer, with my eldest son”.
The Barcelona marathon was Farré’s first, marking him in 1985 to make popular athletics a way of life. A race he has run again 34 times and now wants to make it 35: “Running the Marathon changed my life. Until that year, the most he had run was a 15 km race with the Club Corbera and I decided to run my first marathon in Barcelona. I did 3h53′, my worst time so far. When I crossed the finish line, I was like ‘Superman’ and I started training 3 or 4 days a week”.

Of the 99 marathons he has accumulated in his legs, he has finished 61 under 3 hours, achieving his personal best of Rotterdam 2002 (Netherlands) at 02:33:43 pm ‘Butxi’, a graphic designer until he retires in 2022, has made running marathons his way of life. For 38 years, except for three editions due to injury and the virtual one in 2020 due to Covid-19, he has been a regular at the Marató Barcelona.

“Until 1990, in my first five years as a marathoner, I ran 25 marathons. I loved marathons to travel and get to know cities while running, with my wife and then my two children, to whom I dedicated each of them and we celebrate them together. In 2010, I adopted my second son, Abraraw, who will turn 21 the day after Marató Barcelona in 2023. One day, like today, his brother that guy running his first marathon with me in Barcelona,
