The British Adam Yates will lead the UAE for the Tour of the Emirates which runs from February 20 to 26, a team that will include Marc Soler in its septetwhich will play in the second phase of the season.
The Emirati team will enter the race as the defending champions, while Slovenian Tadej Pogacar will lift the trophy at Jebel Hafeet in 2022.
The leader of the UAE will be the winner of the 2020 race, the British Adam Yatesdebutant in the UAE jersey, who that year scored an unforgettable solo stage victory at Jebel Hafeet.
This year’s race will take place February 20-26. and will feature seven days of racing including 6 road stages and a team time trial on day 2.
The team will enter the race with a strong team, with Yates, Jay Vine, Marc Soler, Sebastián Molanowho will be looking for his first victory of the season in the sprint stages, Mikkel Bjerg, Vegard Stake Laengen and Brandon McNulty.
“I was really motivated to start racing with the team. The UAE Tour is an enjoyable race and a place that has been good for me in the past. Now I feel a little pressure with the UAE jersey on my back, but that only gives me more motivation to do well. We have a strong team and we will also have good local support which will be fantastic,” said Adam Yates.
The team manager, Joxean Fernández Matxín, clarified the interest of the test to be held at the sponsor’s home.
“This race ranks very high on the goal list. Along with the Tour de France, it is the pinnacle of our time.. The goal is to come back and try to defend our title from last year. Yates will make his debut for us and take on the role of leader, although as is our nature as a team we will have different options throughout the race as it unfolds.”
