The American Taylor Fritz, number 7 in the world, qualified this Saturday for the final of the Delray Beach tournament after defeating compatriot Mackenzie McDonald 6-3, 7-6 (8/6).
The win in 95 minutes gives the top seed in the tournament in Florida a chance to win what would be the fifth title of his career. He will try this Sunday (21 Spanish peninsular time) against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovicwho defeated Moldovan Radu Albot 7-6 (10/8), 3-6, 6-2 after two hours and 28 minutes in the other semifinal.
“I feel good. I’ve been playing better and better every game since I’ve been here. I love this moment. I love playing in finals, so I know I will have a good game tomorrow,” said Fritz.
Fritz, who qualified for the 10th final of his career, has won the last three contested in 2022in March at Indian Wells, in June at Eastbourne and in October at the Japan Open.
“It’s like I didn’t play 10. But I try to forget the ones I lose so maybe that’s it.” joked the 25-year-old.
For his part, It took Kecmanovic two and a half hours to close out the game, he hasn’t contested a title since he won in Kitzbuhel in 2020, so far his only trophy. This will be the third final for the Belgrade tennis player who in 2019 lost in Antalya.
Albot, who was the champion of this tournament, in Delray Beach three editions ago, his only title so far, sank in the last set and was out of the competition.
