The lawyer specializing in sports law, Irene Aguiar, expressed his satisfaction on Tuesday because the Cabildo de Tenerife (PSOE) will host this March the III State Congress for Women and Sport which will examine, among others, the presence of trans in sport. Aguiar argues that it is “not fair to allow men to compete in women’s competitions.”
This congress was censored in Las Palmas in December 2022 and Aguiar himself denounced a lynching campaign through virtual terminals of Podemos for criticizing its rule, the so-called ‘Trans Law’. The association organizing the Congress canceled it, denouncing “political pressure and censorship” at that table, which is why they decided to cancel the congress. This congress has been held every two years since 2017, although the pandemic forced it to interrupt the continuation and in previous editions it reached the cities of Valencia and Bilbao.
The conversation they intend to organize in Las Palmas will consist of experts who will analyze issues related to physiology, biology or psychology and who will argue that the participation of transgender people in female categories contributes to the “erasure of women”.
Expert. The president of the National Women and Sport Congress Association, Cristina Gallodetailed that this meeting will serve to put health on the table from a broader perspective, taking into account the psychosocial aspects that need to be addressed”. Among them, Gallo explained, “the -students investigating harassment and abuse will be addressed, as necessary listen to data on gender violence in sport but also the tools that exist to deal with them, as well as problems related to mental health or inclusion of trans people in women’s sport”.
Finally, the III Women and Sports State Congress, criticized by @GranCanariaCabwill be made in Tenerife 👏
Thank you, @CabildoTenerifefor embracing it and being a space for debate to talk about women’s health in sport.
I feel sorry for my land. https://t.co/LGrxyJ0ZR4

freedom of speech. “Promoting equality should not be an exception, nor any merit for any politician. It is not just about talking about equality or championing policies that affect us all, but more to all about the issues that concern and occupy, in the media, in the clubs, in society in general, and that affect the possibility of women to participate in the world of sports”, indicated the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín.
Teach the Practice. “The celebration of this congress is also associated with other initiatives that we have launched in the Cabildo, among others the Educar Entrainando program, the Women and Sports program, or the prioritization of teams that give relevance to the participation of women” , continued the president, adding that “it is not a question of winning or losing, but of getting people who are able to integrate into society, to make it more egalitarian, more democratic and more respectful, and, in the end, working to sport serves to achieve equality of rights”.
The Island Councilor for Sports, Concepcion Riverodefined the congress as “a benchmark event for people who work and research about women in sports” and I assure that for the Island of Tenerife “it is a great opportunity to host this edition of the event, because it will allow us to make our athletes visible and recognized”. In this sense, he stressed that the meeting will have the participation of “important personalities in this area such as researchers, academics, psychologists, lawyers and, of course, athletes of various modalities.”
sessions. The sessions will start on Friday, March 3 at half past nine in the morning and will feature expert researchers who have carried out various projects to deal with sexual harassment and abuse in sport, an example of which is the deputy general director of Women and Sports of the Higher Sports Council, Bárbara Fuertes, who will present a protocol to protect athletes.
In addition, various professionals with international careers will present the current situation of the inclusion of trans people in the female categories of competitive sport, as well as the regulation that federations have and its effects.
On the other hand, psychology experts will test the need to take care of mental health of athletes and active players, with real testimonials about their experiences with depression, anxiety, eating disorders or stress.
