Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City, was not surprised by the draw (1-1) that his team got during their visit to Leipzig in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 match.
“In general I am very happy”, assured the Catalan coach. “I had the feeling that the tie will decide the second leg. I have a lot of respect for Leipzig.”
However, Guardiola acknowledged: “Hopefully in three weeks we will arrive in a good situation. We can do better. We have to fix some things and find a way to qualify.”
Asked about his talk to his players on the pitch after the final whistle, Guardiola revealed that he told them to be proud of their performance: “I said ‘why are your heads down? Heads up, it was good’.”
Rose: “We weren’t there in the first part”
For his part, Marco Rose, Leipzig’s coach, assured that “there were two different parts. At first we were not there, too passive. We did not do enough. We were too far from the field. In all facets we were not at the level of the Champions League”.
On the other hand, Rose emphasized that “in the second half we achieved what we expected, we played at the level of the Champions League, we treated Manchester City equally and that’s what we want. Having the ball is important , they don’t like it run after the ball. We got this tie”.
