Carlos Alcaraz, top-10 in both age and day of Rafa Nadal

Date:

Carlos Alcaraz intends to track the role of Rafa Nadal in Godo 2005, when he opened the current record of twelve titles including 18 years and 10 months. Also, the next day, on April 25, the man from Manaco entered the world top-10, rising to seventh place.

Murcian is a month older, he didn’t break any record of being ahead of RCT Barcelona-1899. Even Nadal didn’t make it, as the youngest champion of the tournament was the Swede Mats Wilanderthe best in the 1982 edition in 18 years and a month.

From the eleventh position he safely climbed to tenth, leaving the British cameron norrie, which he surpassed after entering the ‘semis’ of Godó. He will take ninth place from the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, which he missed once, qualified for the Barcelona final. He had no chance of reaching the eighth to become champion in the tournament.

In 2005, Nadal won the contests of Costa do Sauípe and Acapulco on the American land tour. And chained to Europe Montecarlo and Godo. Alcaraz announced his arrival by winning the clay of Rio de Janeiro, took momentum with the ‘top ten’ dominating the hard court Miami Masters 1000.

Nadal hasn’t dropped into the top-10 since. At 35, he is on his way to reaching 900 consecutive weeks in the elite rankings. He has the record. Although the injuries could not appeal to him from the chosen club, where they left, due to physical problems, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

With his massive success this year, Alcaraz is the third player to add the most points to the rankings this year, behind Rafa Nadal and his victim in the Godó quarterfinals, the Greek. Stefanos Tsitsipas. It is in the battle for the number 1 currently occupied by Djokovic.

It still has room to beat the record for being ahead of No. 1, held by the Australian Lleyton Hewittwhich topped the ATP rankings at 20 years and 8 months.

Of the kids who made it into the top-10, Alcaraz was the ninth youngest, just behind Nadal. The one who came earlier was the American Aaron Krickstein, with 17 years and 11 months. The American child prodigy did not confirm expectations later.
