“I wasn’t at the start of the Strade Bianche this year. Unfortunately, last week I got sick for more than a few days, nothing serious, but it conditioned the whole first part of my stage in Tenerife. After world cyclocross I rested for a few days and because of this stop, I was forced to stay longer than expected, so we decided to stay and work at altitude for a few days to prepare for Tirreno-Adriatico. In Strade Bianche I cannot be competitive, and if I participate I want to do it to win. Plans have to be changed from time to time. The mood for the northern classics remains very positive.”

After resigning at Strade Bianche, Van Aert was in Tirreno-Adriatico which starts on March 6.
