1-0: Mosquera, decisive for the Timbers

Date:

The Colombian Juan David Mosquera gave a 1-0 win to Portland Timbers at Providence Park against Sporting Kansas City in the match that closed the program of the first day of the American MLS.

Mosquera scored the decisive goal six minutes later, beating the keeper with a low shot from his right foot after an assist from Yimmy Chara, who would retire soon after due to injury.

The 20-year-old right-back has been playing in Portland since the summer of 2022 and celebrated his first goal in a Timbers jersey, where he shared the dressing room with his compatriots Yimmy and Diego Chara. The Timbers debuted Brazilian Evander Da Silva, signed for around ten million dollars from Midtjylland.

At Sporting, Spanish defender Andrey Fontás, former player of Barcelona or Celta Vigo, is the starter, facing his sixth season in American soccer.

The match was played this Monday after being postponed on Saturday due to the heavy rain that has been pouring in the past few days on the West coast of the United States.

The next day, the Timbers face defending champion Los Angeles FC, while Sporting Kansas City takes on the Colorado Rapids.
