Liverpool and Manchester United play out the quintessential classic of English football on Sunday. Both teams played often but Jürgen Klopp showed signs of ‘fair play’ by praising Marcus Rashford, his team’s great threat in the great game at Anfield.
“It is impossible to be happy, as manager of Liverpool, for something positive at Manchester United, but I am very happy for Rashford,” said the German coach in the press conference before the great classic.
“He had a very difficult last year where he didn’t perform at the level he could have… Now he’s playing unbelievable. His speed, his technique, it’s a mixture of everything. How calm he is in front of goal,” Klopp continues to praise United’s ’10’.
“Score goals all the way”
“He scores great goals, others are easier, he can score with a header. We have to defend ourselves together because he is not the only world-class player,” urged Klopp has his players stop Rashford, who has scored 25 goals this season. (his best record ever) and seven in their last eight matches in all competitions.
United are on an eleven game unbeaten run and are looking to win four titles this season. Last Sunday they won the League Cup at Wembley against Newcastle (2-0) and on Wednesday they reached the quarterfinals of the FA Cup after eliminating West Ham (3-1). Before hosting Betis in the round of 16 (first leg) of the Europa League, the ‘red devils’ are looking to consolidate their third place finish in the Premier League. With a game left to play, they are 11 points behind leaders Arsenal and six behind Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is sixth, six points behind Tottenham, fourth with one more game to play, so they need to win to keep getting closer to the Champions League positions.
“A machine to get results”
“They have become a results machine. They get results with very good performances. Top-class football, and if they don’t do that well, they will get results too,” United’s Klopp said . “That’s why they are there. They are fully involved in the fight to win the league, but we are also there and we are trying to find our best moment”.
