Choupo-Moting will continue one more season at Bayern

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will continue one more season at Bayern Munich. The Cameroonian striker joined the Bavarian team in the fall of 2020 after ending his contract with PSG and signed until 2021, but he renewed for two seasons and now the good performance he continues to offer at the age of 33 allows him to extend his relationship until June 2024.

“I feel very good here, my family also feels good in Munich, this is an important point for me,” Choupo-Moting emphasized in Bayern’s statement. “Naturally, I’m also happy that I’m helping the team a lot.”

For his part, Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern’s sports director, argued for the renewal of the Cameroonian international: “Choupo is an artist on the ball, he has been very good in recent years. In the first phase of the season he helped us in the center forward position to fill the gaps we have”.

In his first two seasons at Bayern, the presence of Robert Lewandowski severely limited his presence in the team, but the departure of the Polish goalscorer to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022 opened the door for him to start position.

Decisive this season

Unavailable at the start of the season due to a groin injury, Choupo-Moting has established himself since October as the solution to Bayern’s attacking vanguard. Trusted by coach Julian Nagelsmann, he has scored 15 goals (including three in the Champions League) since then and provided four assists. Since his arrival at the Munich club, he has scored 33 goals in 82 games.
