Bautista won race 2 in Assen and Lecuona (3) debuts

Date:

Assen closed out a spectacular second Superbike race with a podium for former World Championship riders. Bautista got his third win of the season, followed by Andrea Locatelli and debutant Iker Lecuona, who made his podium debut. Razgatlioglu and Rea had to leave.

The exit is a bit uneven.. At the first corner, Kohta Nozane and his teammate (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) got off. Garrett Gerloff, after experiencing a relationship with Rea. Meanwhile, Razgatlioglu, Locatelli and Bautista took the lead.

Both Rea and Bautista overtook the Italian rider and led Toprak. The fight lasted less than expected. Turn 1 saw the champion and former champion crash after sticking and will have to retire for the first time this season.

Bautista was affected by the collision and he had to change trajectory, which opened the door for the Valencian driver. Lecuona was able, albeit in a short time, to lead a career at WorldSBK. The driver took the lead again from Talavera and was able to open a wide distance, so the race was alone.

The battle was fought for the distribution of the remaining podium drawers. The stars are Locatelli and Lecuona, that they tried to beat Bassani, Lowes and Redding, without success. With four laps remaining, the Yamaha rider overtook Iker’s Honda and Redding was behind in fifth position.

The Spanish pilots left Assen with great success, which added to the total 150 podiums. Bautista led with his Ducati with 109 points. Iker Lecuona with just six races took his first podium in the competition, remembering Carlos Checa’s achievement in 2008 with Honda and 7 as number.
