The Swiss Attorney General’s Office (OAG) closed an open investigation against the president of FIFAthe swiss Gianni Infantinowithout appreciating the irregularities in the charter of a private jet that flew from Suriname to Switzerland in 2017.
The sports body “accepts” this decision, confirming “that the preparations for the trip, made by the Office of the President and the travel department of FIFA, complied with the rules and regulations of compliance of FIFA, a decision which is in line with the opinion of its Ethics Committee in August 2020 in this case,” the federation itself said in a statement.
Following the decision, the Swiss state will bear the costs related to the investigation, while Infantino waived any claim for damages and possible compensation.
According to FIFA, its president “remains hopeful that the judicial system will recognize that the current FIFA administration has turned the page and established itself as a credible and respected organization.”
