There are 500 days left for the opening of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, a century after the French capital became the host. For the first time in history, the opening day will take place along the Seine, where athletes will parade 160 boats from the Austerlitz bridge to the Eiffel Tower. Despite the fact that there are reserved areas that can only be accessed by ticket, people can also enjoy from the street.
Less than a year and a half before the event, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine raised the question of whether the IOC would agree to the participation of athletes of Russian or Belarusian nationality. If allowed, it would be under the banner of neutrality. There is much division of opinion on this issue. Thomas Bachpresident of the IOC, who is in favor of everyone participating, met the rejection of more than 30 countries, including France itself.
In Paris 2024 the equality Olympic Games will be held. In disciplines like athletics, boxing, cycling or canoeing there will be both men and women: 905, proof of commitment so that parity is a reality once and for all. The Olympic program has made a firm commitment in this regard. Of the 329 tests available, 157 were male and 152 female. There will be up to 20 mixed events.
Security is another great concern that the IOC has. An estimated 22,000 workers will be hired for private security to accompany the important deployment of the French police and army. Problems arising from the last general strikes or the vandalism of radical fans keep the organization alert, wanting to avoid any kind of conflict in the summer of 2024.
The city, which is starting to get excited about this historic event, is also working to condition some of the emblematic settings where the various sports will be held: the Parc des Princes, the Roland Garros slope, the Place de la Concorde or around the Eiffel Tower. In Campo de Marte, at the foot of the iconic monument that illuminates Paris, beach volleyball is held, one of the most traditional disciplines.
To date, over three million tickets have been sold. In the second phase, which opens from May 11, around 7 million more tickets will be sold, this time for individual events or for days such as opening or closing. The Olympic flame will arrive by sea, from Greece to Marseille and then by land to Paris, where the countdown to the 2024 Olympic Games has begun.
