The Prosecutor’s Office decided to extend the investigation of the Negreira case for almost the entire term of Sandro Rosell, because it considered that the alleged corruption in the field of sports began at the end of 2010, at the same time as the first month of the former head of the presidency azulgrana This is how El Periódico reported it. In this way, the period covered by the investigation is from the end of 2010 to 2018, when Josep Maria Bartomeu decided to stop payments to Negreira. In total, the former vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees has received 7.3 million euros from the club since 2001 for producing various reports on referees, scouting and grassroots footballers, according to the culé entity, something which the prosecution does not share.

The investigation will go back to December 23, 2010, when the legal reform that introduced the crime of corruption between individuals in the field of sports in the Penal Code came into force, and will cover almost the entire presidency of Rosell, which began its mandate on July 1, 2010.

This crime, according to the calculations made by the prosecutor’s office, prescribes after 10 years, but since it is considered continued, the investigation will return until the crime of corruption between individuals is included, the main crime attributed to Rosell.

The prosecution will need to identify who was the general director, CEO or executive director, financial director, treasurer or head of the economic area of ​​the club between 2011 and 2014. This extension of the investigation period over most of Rosell’s term comes at a time when the former Barça president filed a complaint against those who instigated Operation Catalonia, including Commissioner Villarejo.
