“I’m tired,” Burns rightly said after winning a very demanding tournament, as the American had to play seven rounds of match-play over four days, seven of which ended in victory, before lifting the champion’s trophy.
Eight birdies in the final allowed Burns to close out the match against 17th-ranked Young on the 13th hole, a final display of his fun week on the Austin course. His semi-final win against the current world no. 1, scottie scheffleris particularly associated with the road to his final victory.
Sam Burns defeated all three of his opponents in the group stage, Adam Hadwin (3 and 2), Adam Scott (1 above) and Seamus Power (2 above), and also the four heats: patrick cantley (2 and 1) in the eighth, mackenzie hughes (3 and 2) in rooms, scottie scheffler (1 above) in the semifinals and Cameron Young (6 and 5) in the final are their victims.
