Marc André Ter Stegen was experiencing strange situations when he joined the German team. The stability he achieved at FC Barcelona, where he closed the best League in the history of a goalkeeper with record-breaking Zamora, he does not feel when he defends the national team, now the damage of long-term Manuel Neuer allowed him to hold possession. Germany is immersed in a football crisis and the results these days have translated into two defeats against Poland (1-0) and against Colombia (0-2). That strange balance, nothing in keeping with the tradition of one of the world’s most traditional winning teams, is not the only strange thing Ter Stegen has to deal with. The Barca goalkeeper had to stop two Gelsenkirschen activists who tried to chain themselves to his goal.

A man and a woman rushed onto the pitch in the 24th minute of a friendly match between Germany and Colombia to protest against the use of fossil fuels. Both willingly ran across the grass to the German goal with the will to tie themselves to the posts. Ter Stegen prevented this by involving security members. The man went straight for the right post of Ter Stegen’s frame, but slipped before reaching it and the goalkeeper had already protected his stick. Next, it was noticed that there was a woman hanging out at the left post and Ter Stegen blocked her.
Activists wore protest T-shirts that read “Stop the Fossil Fuel Madness.” Recently, environmental activist Greta Thunberg was detained by Swedish police after stopping traffic arguing that “the climate crisis is a matter of life and death for countless people. We have chosen to physically stop fossil fuel infrastructure fuel. We’re taking back the future,” he later wrote on Twitter.
The match was not successful for Ter Stegen or for the Germany of Hansi Fick, the successful former coach of Bayern who is on the trigger as coach. Goals from Luis Díaz and Cuadrado inflicted another defeat on the Germans.
