Serious mountain accident Tuesday in Karwendel, Tyrol: a 48-year-old climber fell eight meters after a rock broke out and he lost his footing. The local was seriously injured and had to be rescued by helicopter rope.
The Tyrolean went on a climbing tour with a companion (44) on the Lamsenspitze in the Karwendel – both alpinists were well rested. “The 48-year-old climbed the 6th pitch while restrained by his rope partner,” police said.

His companion immediately made a distress call. The injured climber was eventually rescued by a helicopter rope and then flown to Hall Hospital. “The uninjured climber was also recovered with the rope and dropped off at the Lamsenjochhütte,” the researchers conclude.
