Coaches are an important part for a team of talented football players to become a champion and, understandably, the best must be the best winners. Or not?
L’Equipe has revealed a list with 12 current top earners and the positions leave unexpected surprises:
12
Xavi Hernandez (Barca)
€3.8 million
Xavi Hernández, Barça coach, is the lowest on this list of twelve names. It might seem logical to have some experience on the bench and also because of Barça’s financial situation, but the pressure that the Barça bench carries is no small thing.

Eleven
Niko Kovac (Wolfsburg)
4 million euros
Niko Kovac is the one who occupies the eleventh position of this ranking. He certainly took advantage of the fact that he took the Bayern Munich bench to get such a contract because the level of play and results he is not considered one of the best either.

10
Xabi Alonso (Bayer Leverkusen)
5 million euros
Xabi Alonso is training for the first time in a ‘top’ club at a professional level and the salary he earns is not bad. Bayer Leverkusen have been in a sea of turmoil and since their arrival the tide seems to have receded so they will be happy to pay what they are paying.

9
Jose Mourinho (Roma)
€9.2 million
Jose Mourinho is one of the current income earners. With no related achievements from times past, his name remains an institution. This is why Rome, where it is true that she is doing a good job, threw the house out the window with the Portuguese.

8
Simone Inzaghi (Inter Milan)
10 million euros
It’s surprising to see Simone Inzaghi above a name like Jose Mourinho’s, but he is highly regarded in Italy. He managed to make Inter Milan champions of Serie A.

7
Carlo Ancelotti (Real Madrid)
€11 million
One of the most surprising positions on the list. Undoubtedly one of the best coaches of all time, the current LaLiga and Champions League champion, is not even halfway through the list. Carlo Ancelotti is a true legend, but he doesn’t need to win like everyone else.

6
Thomas Tuchel (Bayern Munich)
€12 million
Recently came Bayern Munich to occupy half of this list. Thomas Tuchel got a lot of fame, even if he was also a ‘bad boy’, but this was an emergency solution for the Bavarians, who had to go through the box after Nagelsmann was sent off.

5
Maximilian Allegri (Juventus)
€12.8 million
A whole institution in Italy and more in Turin. Although he was criticized because Juventus did not play spectacular football, in his previous phase he came close to winning everything, even a couple of Champions Leagues.

4
Graham Potter (Chelsea)
€13.5 million
The surprise of surprises on this list. Graham Potter, who was idle and barely coached at Brighton, was covered in gold by Chelsea to sign as Tuchel’s replacement. And, for now, it cannot be said that what he is charging is justified.

3
Jurgen Klopp (Liverpool)
€17.8 million
The German opened the podium and it was not low. Undoubtedly one of the best coaches in the world, although this season Liverpool will not be there to cheer. He brought Anfield back to the main squares with exquisite football. His personality is worth gold.

2
Pep Guardiola (Manchester City)
€22.4 million
Certainly for many Pep Guardiola should be the best paid in the world, because he is considered the best, but it is not. Can’t complain though. Neither he nor Manchester City, where he made him win almost everything, but the only thing missing is the Champions League.

1
Cholo Simeone (Atletico Madrid)
€34 million
Cholo Simeone’s charge at Atlético de Madrid is a real outrage compared to the rest of his rivals. While it’s true that what he did with the rojiblancos has overall merit, his performance in recent seasons has dropped significantly and many are now suggesting he needs to leave.
