Three paramedics and the seven passengers and the bus driver of a land bus in Frastanz in Vorarlberg were incredibly lucky on Thursday afternoon. On the way to surgery, the ambulance collided sideways with the bus while overtaking.
The ambulance drove with blue lights on Satteinserstraße (L54) towards Satteins on Thursday around 5:20 p.m. for a rescue operation. When a 67-year-old driver saw the blue light approaching the highway bridge, he steered his car to the right side of the road to make way for the emergency vehicle.
Wet road
The driver of the ambulance began to overtake and also turned on the tracking horn. At that moment, however, a land bus came towards him. To prevent the worst, he braked the emergency vehicle forcefully and steered it back into the right lane. The ambulance skidded on the sodden road.
Two collisions in a row
As a result, the ambulance first hit the 67-year-old’s car, which was on the right side of the road. She then collided sideways with the land bus, which had also skidded after braking.
Nobody hurt
Although both vehicles were severely damaged in the collision, the bus driver, the seven passengers and the three paramedics escaped unscathed.
