Until now, it has been mostly quiet on Sunday about the climate stickers of the last generation. Most traffic jams were cleared in the morning hours on weekdays. This time, however, things are different on the day of the Vienna City Marathon: activists block the runners’ way. The police were there immediately.
It is now common knowledge that the activists of the last generation often endure great outcry to make their demands heard. Protests have been held all over Austria for some time now. Protesters cling to the streets, buildings are sprayed, fountains are colored, banners are held aloft. With these steps, the demonstrators are demanding measures from the federal government, such as a ban on new oil and gas drilling and a speed limit of 100 km/h on the autobahns.
Sticking action performed before the starting gun
Also on Sunday, the day of the Vienna City Marathon, the Klimakleber decided to be active at the start of the event on Wagramer Straße. Before the participants got moving, the running course was blocked: four people had tried to keep to the road on starting blocks 1 and 2.
Activists are already known to the police
Since many faces of the last generation are already familiar to police officers, the protest could not go ahead as planned. On the way to the starting blocks, two people were recognized and intercepted.
However, no actions may be planned for the rest of the marathon, because that would be too dangerous for all involved, according to the activists.
