He Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya presented this Friday, within the framework of the second day of the WorldSBK Barcelona Test, all the changes made this winter and spring and those that are still being made to continue to adapt the installation to the requirements of the FIA and the FIM and to improve its maintenance. From May 5 to 7 they will host the World Superbike event, from June 2 to 4 the F1 Spanish GP and from September 1 to 3 the MotoGP Catalan GP.
Track Improvements: Turn 1 Runaway Widening
It will now have 70 meters of gravel runoff at its top and an FIA guardrail has been installed at Turns 1 and 2, significantly improving safety. New service roads and roads were also built to facilitate transit in public areas.
Homologation of layout with and without chicane
The Circuit is approved with and without a chicane for motor racing events using the Grand Prix layout. It is the responsibility of each promoter or championship to decide which one to use in each case. F1 decided to ditch the chicane and return to the original layout as MotoGP has been doing since 2018. To implement this change and improve track safety, the Circuit followed FIA instructions by installing new TECPRO barrier in the last two curves
Improvements in public areas: Modernization of the giant scoreboard
The big Circuit scoreboard has been modernized with led screens on its front and rear faces and the lap counter will be standard and not the one that invites confusion as it happened to Aleix Espargaró in the last MotoGP race. In addition to showing standard information such as laps, positions and numbers of competitors, you can now broadcast live images of every competition in progress.
Comprehensive reform of toilets in public places
The washbasins in various public areas have been renovated, giving them more functionality thanks to the optimization of space, as well as presenting a completely new and modern aesthetic. Drinking water fountains were placed outside for attendees.
Business Improvements: Reform the first floor of the pit building
What was once known as the Pisos Box (now the Corporate Lounge) has been completely transformed, creating large open spaces to accommodate all types of companies. In addition, some of these spaces are soundproofed to expand the possibilities of exploitation without being affected by the activity of the track, which is located a few meters away.
new hospitality building
The Circuit has built a new hospitality building in part of the In2 car park (behind the marker), with two floors and a terrace. For the next Grand Prix there will be one of these plants in operation, as well as the terrace. In addition to being a multipurpose building for all kinds of events, it also has new indoor parking spaces.
Maintenance improvements: Connection to public water network
From now on, the Circuit will have drinking water from the Montmeló network. The works will be completed next April.
Installation of solar panels and new charging points
New solar panels have been installed in the Circuit office area, as well as six new charging points for electric vehicles. Soon, it is also expected to expand the number of solar panels to more areas of the enclosure.
