The choice of Germany, Martina Voss-Tecklenburghas signed a contract extension a few months after this year’s Women’s World Cup, the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Monday, keeping her in charge until the 2025 edition of the European Championship.
Voss-Tecklenburg led Germany to last year’s Euro Cup final, where they were beaten by hosts England. The 55-year-old former Germany international was also shortlisted for FIFA’s Best Women’s Coach award, which was won by England coach Sarina Wiegman.
“We have big ambitions for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this year. After last year’s Euro Cup, I am convinced that our work is not done,” Voss-Tecklenburg said in a statement. “We will continue to strive to build on the strengths of each individual player, as well as the entire team, to be as successful as possible in the next tournament.”
Germany will be looking to win their third World Cup at this year’s main event, co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia from July 20 to August 2. The Germans begin their Group H campaign against Morocco on July 24 before taking on the Colombia and South Korea.
