Alexander Ceferin, president of UEFA, made this Wednesday a strange comparison between the Super League, the project sponsored by Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Juventus, and the Little Red Riding Hood.
The highest representative of European football defined the project in the course of UEFA Congress which will be held in Lisbon and will re-elect him in four more years.
In his speech at the opening of the congress, Ceferin referred to the Super League, ensuring that “in a few months, the famous Super League has become a character from Little Red Hood: a wolf masquerading as a grandmother, ready to eat anyone. But is anyone afraid?” he asked rhetorically.
And he emphasized, as UEFA has always defended against the project of a ‘closed’ Super League to the continent’s most powerful clubs, that “our model is based on sporting merit, and that is priceless. Merit cannot be bought”.
