He Inheritance of RBC It continues to be played during its traditional calendar week after Mastersbut now with a new boost as one of this season’s ‘designated’ events at PGA Tour. Located about 200 km from Augusta Nationalthe RBC Heritage has been a regular event on the circuit since 1969.

masters champion, Jon Rahmthe champion of The Players, scottie schefflerand number 5 in the world, Max Homawill this week extend their limited track record to Harbor Town Golf Links, a par 71 designed by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus on Hilton Head Island. Rahm’s only RBC Heritage appearance comes in 2020, while Scheffler will make his tournament debut. The Northern Irishman was down at the last minute after missing the cut at the Masters Rory McIlroy.

They will face a course that makes up for its lack of length with narrow fairways and the smallest greens on tour. Harbor Town’s final hole, which borders Calibogue Sound, is one of the most spectacular settings on the course, with the famous red and white lighthouse guarding the green.

As we say, Masters champion Jon Rahm leads the ‘field’. He is back to world number 1 and in the FedExCup he has an advantage of 786 points. The top 30 players in the FedExCup rankings (as of April 8) are all here, as are 41 of the top 50. Jordan Spieth returned to the RBC Heritage to defend his title from a year ago after losing in a playoff Patrick Cantley. Spieth is coming off a tied 4th finish at Augusta National. Cantlay has four top-10s in five Harbor Town appearances, including three top-3s. He finished tied for 14th at the Masters. Justin Thomas will try to course correct after missing the cut at Augusta. Thomas finished 11th or better twice in four Heritage starts.

The Masters marks the first major tournament of the season, and the RBC Heritage will be the first ‘designated’ event to be played immediately after one of the four Grand Slams. Great golfers will also be able to compete in recent Masters such as Cameron Young (7th), Viktor Hovland (7th), Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa.

‘Designated’ events have produced a star-studded list of winners. Previous champions at Augusta National were Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler, two each, as well as Kurt Kitayama and Sam Burns. All but Kitayama were ranked in the top 15 of the world rankings when they won. The winner of the Heritage will receive 500 FedExCup points.
