The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) condemned the “brutal assault” suffered by the referee Antonio Pozo in Ceuta, in the hands of a group of players from the CD Polillas youth team and family members. Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, and Luis Medina Cantalejo, president of the Technical Committee of Referees, will visit the referee who was attacked in Ceuta this Monday “to convey the support of Spanish football to him.”
The Federation “regrets and condemns the brutal attack made by some players of the youth category, and the father of one of them, on the referee Antonio Pozo after a match played in Ceuta.” According to the RFEF in a statement, Antonio Pozo, a referee who was “violently attacked” was one of the referees of the Third Division who was part of the talent show.
“The RFEF has in recent weeks denounced the climate of hostility that has developed against referees and warned that it could end in a tragedy as it has already happened.”
For this reason, the Federation asks clubs to act wisely. “Far from stopping hostile campaigns, some prominent Spanish football leaders continue their irresponsible actions and are driven by interests that have nothing to do with sport and its values.”
