And if…?

Date:

In recent days there is a big question in the air. Some rojiblancos friends did it for me. I have also seen it in endless comments on social networks and even in articles from a certain sector of the sports press, which are not exactly relevant: “Is there still a league if we beat Barça this coming Sunday at Camp Nou ?” There are 27 points ahead, we are 13 behind the Catalans. Even though we have 18 points, it seems like an impossible mission. But it is?

There is an expression that I don’t know how to properly translate into Spanish, which says “when you smell flowers, it means there is a dead body lying on the ground”. My first thought about the sudden media interest in Atleti’s return to Liga, was that something strange was going on. “The devil knows better about being old than being a devil.” I’ve been like this for a long time. It is easy to see the interest in destabilizing the club after this very positive moment, we might get ahead of our eternal rivals in the League. It may also be of interest to weaken Barça and favor third in the La Castellana dispute. Be careful when they suddenly remember us.

However, if we look at the equipment trends…it doesn’t seem impossible! The culés face a very complicated media and institutional situation. On the other hand, the meringues know better Europe and the final of the Copa del Rey sponsored by the annoying non-card of ceballos. Soccer is a state of mind. If we attack the Camp Nou, we will be 10 points behind the leaders, with 8 games to go. Strange things happened. And why not?

My heart is torn as to whether I should be happy about it. Two complementary slogans coexist in Atlético de Madrid’s philosophy: “Never stop believing” symbolizing our faith and passion; while we simultaneously follow the more rational and pragmatic “Game by Game”. Anyway, I’ll try to keep a cool head with the right dose of faith so I don’t get too many birds in my head. The only thing that matters is conquering Barcelona. After that there will be time to build. I am very confident that the great Cholo and our cracks will return to Madrid with three points.

You know what I don’t trust? That they call us penalty! It’s easier for us to win this league than for them to referee us like everyone else. Hey Atleti! Hey Atleti! Hey Atleti!
