Spaniard Carlos Sainz, Ferrari driver, was “very disappointed” after learning that the International Automobile Federation (FIA) had rejected his team’s appeal for the penalty imposed on the driver late in the Australian Grand Prix, held in April 2, and that left him scoreless.

});

“It’s very disappointing that the FIA didn’t give us the right to review. Two weeks later, I still think the penalty was too disproportionate and I think it should have at least been reviewed based on the evidence and reasoning we presented,” said him on their social networks.

Sainz was handed a five-second penalty for crashing into compatriot Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin on the final restart at the Albert Park circuit, dropping him from fourth to twelfth and missing out on the points.

A decision he did not understand then and not after the FIA’s explanations, which is why he is advocating a change in the sanctioning process.

“We need to continue to work together to improve some things for the future. Consistency and the decision-making process has been a controversial issue for too long and we need to be more transparent for the good of our sport, ” he appreciated.

A Sainz who, despite this, wants to forget about it and set his mind on the next Grand Prix in Baku (Azerbaijan) in the last weekend of April.

“The Australian case is a thing of the past and I am 100% focused on the next race in Baku,” he concluded.
