The historical Marbella tour of Las Brisasscene with other great competitions of a World Cup in 1973 that won USA forming couple Jack Nicklaus and Johnnie Millerwill host the November 23 to 26 is the Spanish Open which will close the Ladies European Tour season and that will bring together the best players of European circuit.
Located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, and designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1968, remodeled by Kyle Phillips in 2015, it will continue “a club record that has been on stand-by for the past 20 years”, said Paul Muñoz, general manager of Real Club de Golf Las Brisas.
Real Club de Golf Las Brisas also hosts 1989 World Cup, played over 36 holes by heavy rain, with the triumph of Australia and second place for Spain, with Txema Olazábal and José María Cañizares forming a duo. It is the headquarters of Spanish Open (1983 and 1987)and in addition to Nicklaus, Miller, Olazabal and Cañizares, played their 18 holes with other legends, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo.
“This tournament will put Real Club de Golf Las Brisas back on the golf map. We want to renew that feeling that used to be in the club, and making it a women’s event is a plus, not only because it is evolving, but because it will give the club a new position and it will put the us on the map in a very interesting way”, added Muñoz.
The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open in Spain, which will live in its twenty-first edition and two of us won, like Azahara Munozit is twice, and Charlotte Cigandawill put an end to what will undoubtedly be the best year of Spanish women’s golf in history after the dispute of Solheim Cup from September 18 to 24 at the nearby Finca Cortesín, in Casares (Málaga).
