Chief technical officer of Red Bull Adrian Newley, one of the most successful Formula One designers of all time, has signed a contract extension with the current world champions, as reported on Monday by the specialized website motorsport.com.
A team spokesman said contracts were not discussed publicly, but said the 64-year-old Newey “isn’t going anywhere for some time.”
The Briton has designed title-winning cars for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull in more than 40 years in the sport and is reportedly in the final year of his contract as Red Bull technical director.
Newey joined the team from McLaren in 2006, and the team won four consecutive drivers’ and constructors’ titles between 2010 and 2013 under Sebastian Vettel. They won both titles last year, and Dutchman Max Verstappen is now chasing his third straight championship.
So far this season, Red Bull has won all four races, three of them with a double Verstappen-Pérez in Bahrain or Pérez-Verstappen in Jeddah and Baku.
