Just four days before the start 105th edition of the Giro d’Italia, Movistar team confirmed the eight names that will make up its line-up for the first three weeks staged round of the 2022 campaign.
Alejandro Valverde and Ivan Sosa will be the main references of a complete block José Joaquín Rojas, Jorge Arcas, Sergio Samitier, Antonio Pedrero, Oier Lazkano and Will Barta. Maximilian Sciandri and Ivan Velasco will manage the management of the sport.
Movistar explained the reasons for choosing its members. It aims to combine the experience and brilliance of ‘Bala’, podium finisher (3rd) and stage winner with his only participation to date in 2016, and the talent of Sosa, recent winner in Asturias. Also, the reliability of the Arcas or Rojas -20th Grand Tour behind them- and the courage for climbing Pedrero -among the top 25 overall in the last two years- or Samitier -13th in 2020- . Added to them is Lazkano’s youth and work –second ‘Great’ for him- and Barta, who, like Oier and Jorge, will be making their Giro debut.
