They wanted to ‘show off’ the American style at the Miami GP. Max Verstappen put it all together in a spectacular comeback. The two-time world champion arrived at the North American event on fire after losing to his teammate ‘Czech’ in Baku. And his fury was compounded when he was relegated to 9th on the starting grid on Sunday due to his own error in his first attempt in Q3 and a subsequent accident by Leclerc. He would come to the grill with a knife between his teeth. Pérez started first and if he wins he can lead him. The Dutchman knew this, who despite starting 9th, came back with incredible speed and won big against ‘Checo’ Pérez (2nd) and Fernando Alonso (3rd). The man from Oviedo, with a perfect race, achieved his 4th podium in 5 races. For his part, Sainz tried to fight for that podium, but a penalty took him away before his Ferrari’s tire damage dropped him to 5th place.

F1 2023 MIAMI GP RESULTS
CLASSIFICATION OF F1 WORLD CUP 2023 AFTER THE MIAMI GP
Alonso warned on Saturday: “Verstappen will come and fast.” I was bet it would take 25 spins to reach him. But Red Bull’s superiority is greater: in just 15 laps he was 2nd after passing Alonso. By then, the battle of rhythms had begun between Pérez, the leader, and Max, who had a demonic speed while recovering areas. By lap 16, Max was 3.9 behind. Then he started to cut the differences in ‘Checo’. This is the repetition of Baku, but with a clear difference: In Baku, ‘Checo’ managed to hide Max very quickly. In Miami, Verstappen was better in free practice and this was confirmed in the race.

Difficult correction of Max in ‘Czech’
Both pushed throughout, fast lap after fast lap. Max is faster. Checo started to suffer on the medium rubber and his partner, who started on the hard, was taking advantage of that tire.. In just 4 laps he has already placed himself in 1”5. That’s when Pérez entered the pits. Verstappen, for his part, opted to extend his stop.
The two-time champion began to shoot at an amazing, frenetic pace. Its hard rubber is starting to open and Max says the gears aren’t going up smoothly. But in the time table he is still high. However, it was not enough for Verstappen to enter the pits that the first place was won. He had to stop and pass ‘Checo’ with new tires on the track. The Dutchman chose to stretch that stop to the maximum. He had an 18” margin over Pérez and entered the pits on lap 46. He made 46 turns on hard rubber pulling to the maximum! He returned to the track with 11 laps remaining, 1.5 behind Pérez, with new medium rubber, with little fuel. He can attack against a Pérez with hard rubber who already has 24 laps. And it didn’t take long to do that.
In two turns, Max stuck to ‘Checo’. The Mexican defended himself at first. He also tried it on the second one, but the difference in tires was too big. Verstappen thus completed a magical comeback and hit the table hard. He is the current champion and he reminds Pérez of this. He clipped the wings of ‘Checo’ with amazing success, and prevented his partner from tightening the World Cup further.

Alonso, fourth podium in 5 races
Fernando Alonso He achieved his fourth podium in 5 races. He was third in all but Baku, where he finished 4th. The Oviedo man made the most of his good starting position to achieve a new drawer with another solid race where his Aston Martin reconfirmed itself as the second best car in the race, with good tire wear as its main weapon . ‘Miami confirmed it’, as the song says.
Fernando Alonso started well, but could not lead the race against a Pérez who gave him no choice. His career was spent looking in the rearview mirror to contain a Sainz who during the first stint handled the pace of the man from Oviedo very well. It looked like Carlos could pick that podium and Ferrari went on the attack with a stop on lap 18 when the Spaniard was on the Spaniard’s heels. Such was the tension of that moment that Sainz made a mistake in that moment. He entered the pit lane with the brakes on. He exceeded the speed limit. Alonso stopped after 4 laps and started behind Sainz, but by then, Carlos had received a 5 second penalty which kept him away from that goal.
Carlos had to start thinking not to lose 5″ to Russell, who was exactly at that distance. But that came one of Ferrari’s diseases: wear and tear. which he would finish despite the sanction. He finished with an 8″ margin over Hamilton, so he never lost ground to the Englishman when a penalty was applied. So, that mistake by Carlos and the subsequent penalty did not affect the result that the Spaniard could have wanted with his Ferrari. Demotion at the end of the career yes. That prevented him from fighting for better positions, something that contrasted with the good pace he had and how well he took care of his car’s tires in the first stint.
Leclerc had the worst race. He started 7th and finished 7th behind Hamilton, who rallied from 13th to 6th. Charles spent a lot of time struggling to pass Magnussen in a Haas. And when the Monegasque got some fresh air, his rhythm wasn’t good. Weekend to forget about Leclerc in a Miami GP that will not go down in history for action. Only for one Max Verstappen who now played a different sport.
