“Traitor!”, “Selfish!” Very difficult confrontation between Romario and Bebeto

Date:

Romário and Bebeto, the legendary strikers with whom the Brazilian team won the 1994 World Cup in the United States, made clear their distance through a crossover of accusations that originated in politics and in which they were called “traitor”, “selfish” and “sclerotic”.

The first shooter was the former Barcelona and Valencia player, who on Monday acknowledged, in an interview on the ‘Cheguei’ podcast, that Bebeto was his biggest partner, but “he’s gone”.

“Traitor. He betrayed me in politics. He jumped from the branch. There are things in life that I take with me forever, inside and outside of politics. I see that every day, but when it happens to a man you’ve been with and it’s sad the relationship of your friendship,” Romario affirmed.

The current senator pointed out that he never had a fight with his former partner in ‘canarinha’, “only he” betrayed him, “nothing else”. “Unfortunately, it is like that,” he said.

Romário did not explain the reasons for this cooling, but the Brazilian press speculated that the source was the last electoral campaign, when Romário defended the far right. Jair Bolsonaro and was re-elected senator, and Bebeto supported the progressive Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvaalthough he did not get a seat in the Chamber of Deputies.

Bebeto, who also entered politics and was regional deputy for Rio de Janeiro for three terms consecutively, he responded this Tuesday to the criticism of ‘Baixinho’ with some incendiary statements on the UOL portal in which he described him as “old” and “selfish”.

“Romario is old”

“Who is he to call me a traitor? Romario is getting older and I think he is getting sclerotized, there is a lot of nonsense being said. I have had a whole career in football and politics, I have never been involved in controversy. I can’t say the same about him, he’s selfish, he always thinks about himself,” said the former Sevilla and Deportivo La Coruña player.

Bebeto explains that, in reality, it was Romário who betrayed him by switching political parties without informing him.

“She’s always thinking about him”

“I didn’t betray anyone. Politics is done in a group and Romário only thinks about him,” he insisted.

And he still complains that Romário maintains that he won the 1994 World Cup “alone”. “No one does anything alone. Soccer and politics are done together and Romário is an individualist,” Bebeto said.
