MAIGAN Superb
The French goalkeeper once showed his exceptional qualities with some saves where he brought out his reflexes and elasticity. Only Lautaro Martínez surprised him with his whiplash on the short stick which was the only goal of the game.
CALABRIA Be careful
The right-back did not struggle in defense on his wing, although he did not provide depth to Milan’s attack as he had no space to project himself.
TOMORI Sober
The English center back continued his game against the threat of Edin Dzeko, who he only allowed to finish once.
Resists THIAW
A full Champions League semifinal at the age of 21 doesn’t bode well for the German central defender. It was one of the changes in the starting eleven compared to the first leg and although he saw a yellow card for cutting off Lautaro Martínez’s progress, he came out of his match with the Argentine well before retiring injured.
THEO HERNANDEZ made a revolution
Apart from a whiplash at the start which gave the Inter fans a scare, he was unable to enjoy himself in attack as usual and in defense he took off the card despite committing a few fouls due to his over strength.
KRUNIC That’s right
The Bosnian, who played on the left in the first leg, returned to his midfield position on his return in place of the injured Bennacer. He always kept his position and fulfilled both recovering balls and taking them in support of his teammates.
TONALI is plugged in
He is the most creative player in Milan but he can hardly connect with offensive references. Well pressed, he could only escape at the start of the game by running to the end line which B Brahim Díaz could not convert into a goal.
JUNIOR MESSIAH Meaningless
A novelty in the eleven compared to the first leg in place of Saelemaekers, the Brazilian was never able to get deep down the right and ended up as a substitute.
BRAHIM DIAZ Off
The playmaker from Malaga barely got into the game, although he had the chance to try to come back from his boots when, in the 11th minute, he sent a clear shot into the hands of André Onana after a great Tonali ran. Origi replaced him.
RAFAEL LEAO Intermittently
This is the great new addition to Milan’s lineup after missing the first leg through injury. The Portuguese winger was slow to emerge but when he showed his quality, like in the 38th minute, when he broke away on the left before crossing too much after standing alone against Onana. That was his good chance as Inter failed his attempts to get off balance.
GIROUD Cancelled
The giant French forward fought back with the Inter center backs but was unable to catch any of the few fit balls thrown his way by his teammates.
THE CHANGES
KALULU passed
He replaced the injured Thiaw and ten minutes later (74′) he was out of position, creating the space that allowed Lautaro Martínez to trigger the goal that condemned Milan to the tie.
SAELEMAEKERS Testimonial
He came on a quarter of an hour from the end for Junior Messias as Inter scored their only goal. His presence on the field has not changed anything.
ORIGIN Anecdotal
Like Saelemaekers, he arrived after Inter’s goal, with no time left to attempt the miracle.
