Good news for Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City. One of its main parts, Kevin de Bruyne, absent due to injury since last August, is back: this Monday the Belgian midfielder trained with the ‘citizen’ team, preparing for the semi-final of the Club World Cup this Tuesday against Urawa Red Diamonds.
De Bruyne’s return has been the big news in the preparation session for the European champions, who will try to win the Club World Cup for the first time. Another semifinal will be played this Monday between Fluminense and Al-Ahly.
De Bruyne suffered a torn hamstring on the 1st matchday of the current Premier 2023-24, in the match between his Manchester City and Burnley played on August 11 with a 0-3 victory for Manchester. The Belgian retired in the 23rd minute and Guardiola said he would not play again for the rest of 2023. De Bruyne, 32, underwent surgery.
De Bruyne already suffered a hamstring injury in the Champions League final in which the Citizens beat Inter (1-0 and Pep Guardiola’s team won this title for the first time). In the final in Istanbul the Belgian star had to be replaced in the 36th minute by Phil Foden.
