After the 14th stage served the great favorites for the title and their teams to take advantage of the opportunity to ride and train while 30 hard workers fought for the victory, came the massive 15th stage of the Giro d’Italia that will take passengers from Saregno to Bergamo. There will be 195 kilometers truffled by four mountain passes, one category 1 (Valico di Valvava) and three category 2 (Slvino, Miragolo San Salvatore and Brembate di Sopra). The perfect day to see the attacks, the favorites have to re-emerge and stop hiding after handing over the pink jersey to Groupama Bruno Armirail.
Climb Valico di Valcava, Selvino (classical slope), Miragolo San Salvatore and Valpiana (Roncola) with almost no breaks. Both loops are covered by a pass at the finish line before the last loop. These will be very articulated roads with countless curves and a narrow lane in good condition.
After the descent of the last climb (Valpiana), there is a 9 km approach to Bergamo (the only flats at the end of the stage) and the classic route from Upper Town to the finish line. The last kilometers through Bergamo Alta climb to Porta Garibaldi and then (with 200 meters on cobblestones) to Largo Aperto.
In the first part the slopes are always greater than 10% (max. 12%). On the way down, the road is wide and the surface is smooth. 1.8km from the finish there is a hairpin bend with a short bottleneck to pass Porta Sant’Agostino. After the last kilometer there is a wide left turn to join the straight section leading to the finish line.
The final stretch of 800 meters and width of 8 meters is on a downhill asphalt surface in the first part and flat afterwards.
