The technician of City of Manchester, Pep Guardiola, wants to settle “as soon as possible” the alleged financial charges against the club. City, who secured their fifth league title in six seasons under Guardiola last weekend, were charged by the Premier League in February with more than 100 alleged breaches of the league’s financial rules in between 2009 and 2018.
They have also been accused of failing to cooperate with the investigation since it began in December 2018. The club, for its part, has denied any wrongdoing. “What I want is for the Premier League and the judges to do something as soon as possible,” Guardiola told reporters ahead of Wednesday’s trip to sixth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.
“So if we’ve done something wrong, everyone will know it and if we’ve been a club for years and we’ve done things the right way, then people won’t talk about it. We’d love it to be tomorrow. This afternoon better than tomorrow.”
City, which was acquired by Abu Dhabi-based City Football Group in 2008, allegedly breached rules relating to providing accurate financial information, “particularly in relation to its revenues… and its operating costs”.
“I hope they are not too busy and the judges can see both sides and decide what is best, because in the end I know that what we won is that we won on the pitch and we have no doubt,” said Guardiola. “Come on. Don’t wait two years. Why don’t we do it faster? Within 24 hours, sit down with the lawyers that are there. Let’s do it as soon as possible for everyone’s sake.”
He wants to stay at the club next season
Guardiola, who has a contract until 2025, has no plans to leave the club. “I’ll stay next season as long as there are 110 offenses against us,” he said. “I want to continue here next season regardless of the result (of the Champions League final). I don’t know how to win or lose, but I feel I have a contract and I want to respect the club.”
City face Inter Milan on June 10 after facing Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3.
