The FGR pointed out that “the organizers, having exhausted the tickets available for the sporting event, decided to illegally sell tickets issued for previous matches.”
“Negligence and greed” for overselling tickets
The source added that “organizational negligence and greed, when overbooked, generated a human avalanche that caused loss of life, as well as injuries and endangered the safety of attendees.”
It is not known at this time whether the attorney general, Rodolfo Delgado, or other authorities of the Prosecutor’s Office will hold a press conference to provide more details about the arrests and the fact investigation.
It was also not specified when the detainees would be transferred to the respective courts.
The facts
On Saturday night, Alianza FC and Futbolistas Asociados Santanecos (FAS) played the second leg of the quarterfinals of the Clausura tournament at the Cuscatlán stadium. The game was suspended after the head referee was told about the stampede of people on the general south side of the stadium.
The 12 people who died were fans of Alianza, representative of the capital of San Salvador.
The death of these 12 people, which became the greatest sports tragedy in the Central American country, dismayed the Salvadoran population in general and moved the national football lovers even more.
