Hugh Carthy will not start the Giro’s queen stage

Date:

The British Hugh Carthy (EF Education), classified third in Vuelta 2020, will not start due to a stomach ailment in the queen stage of the Giro d’Italia which is now disputed between Longarone and the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, which is 183 km.

With three stages left to finish the Giro, the EF Education team has announced the 28-year-old Preston runner’s withdrawal due to “stomach problems”.

Carthy, stage winner at the Vuelta, Tour de Suiza and Vuelta a Burgos, “He has had stomach problems for a few days and will go home to rest and recover“, as announced by the formation.

EF Education-EasyPost suffered many dropouts at the Giro, such as Rigoberto Urán and Jonathan Caicedo, positive for covid. Stefan De Bod also left the race due to a crash. The American squad is still in the race with four riders.
