Spain will compete in 7 male and 4 female weights of the pre-Olympic European Games

The Spanish Boxing Federation will participate in European Games next July, which will serve as a pre-Olympic tournament in this sport, with boxers in seven male weights and four of six female weights, according to the new categories approved by the IOC for the Paris 2024 Games.

Martin MolinaEuropean champion and world bronze at 51 kilos, and laura is strongworld bronze at 50 kg, will be the main asset of the delegation.

The selector, Rafael Lozano Munozlamented the cutting of men’s weight categories.

“It is unfortunate that in order to achieve equality between women’s and men’s weights, there is a lack of equity, because the reduction directly affects male boxers. Since this weight reduction has occurred, as technical director I had to make very difficult decisions, such as leaving the boxers of a good international entity. Even so,” he added, “I am sure that with the chosen team we will achieve good results.”

“In my opinion,” he added, “women’s categories should increase without hurting men, like the recent World Cup.”
