Germany could not overcome a draw against Ukraine (3-3) on Monday in a friendly played in Bremen where they were against the wall and did not get their third goal until the 90th minute thanks to a penalty. Viktor Tsygankov, Girona player, stood in two goals.
In the 1,000th game in its historyGermany had the ball, created several chances, the first in minute 2, took the lead in minute 6 with a goal from Nicklas Füllkrug and then he conceded two goals, one in a counterattack and another in a play that started with losing the ball in his own half.
It was the highlight of the first half of a match that had more of a political component, as a show of solidarity with Ukraine, than a sporting one, but it was part of Germany’s preparations for Euro 2024 which they will play at home.
The selector, Hansi flick, started playing with a defense of three center backs -Antonio Rüdiger, Mathias Ginter and Nico Schlotterbeck- and two broad wings with a clear offensive disposition as Mariusz Wolf and Tobias Raum.
His intention was to corral Ukraine in their own half, press high on every turnover and move it quickly looking for space.
The German start is promising. The Ukrainians couldn’t find a way out of the pressure and the return was intercepted inside the area by Fullkrug, who finished wide from a good position.
Füllkrug opened the scoring
The goal came a few moments later. Joshua Kimmich put a ball in place, Wolf He received it and signed a shot with his left foot that ended up in the back of the net after being handled Füllkrug.
Tsygankov and Rüdiger, on their own, returned
On the offensive side there was almost no Ukrainian news until, after a bad pass from Wolfthere was a backlash somewhere Tsygankov, Girona playerended up scoring the equalizer with a cross shot on his right leg.
The second arrival of the Ukrainian, in the 24th minute, became the visitors’ second goal after a shot from Mudryk hit a leg of Rudiger and go under the net.
Ukraine left
Then the game turned into a desperate attempt by Germany to gain space near the rival area, with almost the entire Ukrainian team closing in to defend everything.
Before the break Germany had three notable arrivals: a fairly high shot from Leon Goretzka from the side in the 29th minute, a header was deflected from full circle in the middle of Raum at 38 and a free-kick by Leroy Sané crashed into the crossbar seconds before the break.
Tsygankov struck again
In the second half, Germany’s ball was almost non-stop until the 55th minute Ginter He lost it within the area. Yarmlenko set up Tsygankov, who scored the Ukrainian’s third goal.
That goal gave confidence to Ukraine, which began to dare more offensively, while Germany began to look more insecure.
Germany avoided defeat with two goals at the end
However, in the 82nd minute he closed the gap with a goal by Kai Havertz, who scored with his right foot after winning a duel inside the area after a long ball from Rüdiger.
The equalizer came in the 90th minute, when Kimmich converted a penalty called for a foul on Havertz.
